Just as we need human relationships, emotional contact and communication, even more so we need and have the potential to experience the divine connection. God gave us the gift of an eternal soul that exists within our physical being. It has the capacity to perceive, communicate with and love God. It can learn, retain and respond to the teachings of Jesus Christ and even becomes the dwelling place for God’s Holy Spirit.
It’s certainly possible to choose a life that is unconnected to God, but without His presence both now and eternally, it is a life unfulfilled. We may reach the pinnacles of human experience during our lifetime; knowledge, wealth, good works and relationships, but without experiencing the Divine, we are incomplete. Compared to both the current and eternal possibilities that God intends for us, we are still lost, uninformed, alone, and living in spiritual poverty. This is described so powerfully in Revelation 3:17, Because you say, ‘I am rich, have become wealthy, and have need of nothing’ - and do not know that you are wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked.
