The five Sundays in the month of August all fall under the theme, The good news. Each service deals with the core contents of the gospel. The term “gospel” derives from Old English godspell, a word-for-word translation of the Greek term euangelion, which means “good news” or “glad tidings.”

The gospel is the saving activity of God in Jesus Christ, from His birth to His death on the cross, to His resurrection, and ultimately His return, proclaimed through the whole of Scripture (see CNAC 4.8). It cannot be reduced to a few points that are universally used in every context, but rather must be explained in a way that connects with the present situation and audience.

The gospel unifies us as believers in the church of Christ. It is continually proclaimed through the apostle ministry, heralded through the preached word, and it is experienced through the sacraments. God’s desire is for all to be saved. As Christians who have heard and accepted the gospel, it is our responsibility to let it transform us and to share this good news with others.

Each Sunday will reveal how the good news comes alive for us, and what response it should elicit in our lives.

August 1 - The good news saves me!

August 4 - The good news restores me

August 8 - The good news invites me!

August 15 - The good news inspires me!

August 22 - The good news orients me!

August 29 - The good news thrills me!
